Scott’s Garden Centre and Design was founded in 1978 by Kevin Scott, who was later joined by his father William Scott in 1981 when they became partners and incorporated the company. Kevin and William both worked diligently to serve the community and in 1983 Scott’s was able expand with the purchase of the iconic Orillia location (254 Coldwater Rd), where Scott’s Garden Centre still operates today. This was soon followed by Pat, Kevins wife, joining the business in 1986 which solidified them as a family run business in town. 

Scott’s then set their eyes on the Barbour family farm in Brechin (3719 HWY 12 S) for their next expansion which it acquired in 1990. William’s wife, Kathleen Scott (nee Barbour), loved working at the greenhouse in Orillia which made the idea of an expansion onto the family farm a much-desired idea. Now, this site houses our largest nursery and greenhouse operation, featuring over 25,000 square feet of greenhouse space, 1 acre of field grown fall moms, and a plot of over 5,000 Christmas trees. 

Scott’s Garden Centre kept expanding its clientele and in 2003 the company celebrated its 25^th anniversary in Orillia. 

Scott’s history was made again when Kevin and Pat’s son, Alex Scott, graduated from his international business program and made the decision to join the family business full time. Alex took on a leadership role right away, managing the landscaping team during the week and the garden centre on weekends.  After leading the company for almost 10 years, Alex took ownership of Scott’s in 2020, retiring his parents. Kevin and Pat remain involved with certain aspects of the business – albeit in a more “retired” capacity.  

Today, Scott’s Garden Centre offers a comprehensive range of landscaping and floral services providing expert advice on everything from landscape design to individual plant care.  Scott’s strives to provide outstanding customer service, ensuring that our clients feel confident in their investments. Scott’s ongoing success is a testament to the dedication of our talented and hardworking team members and family, who share a passion for creating beautiful landscapes and providing a “family experience” to the whole community.

Our Orillia location is open from February 12th to December 24th and our Brechin location is open from Earth Day in April until Thanksgiving.
